To examine associations between neuroimaging indicators of cerebral tract integrity and neurocognitive functioning in traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Forty-four participants with TBI and 27 matched controls completed diffusion tensor imaging and neuropsychological measures of processing speed, attention, memory, and executive function. Multivariate analyses were conducted to examine group differences in white matter integrity (fractional anisotropy) for 11 regions of interest and cognitive performance among adult males with chronic phase, mild, moderate, or severe TBI. Correlational analyses investigated associations between white matter integrity, brain injury severity, and cognitive status.
Participants with moderate or severe TBI exhibited reduced white matter integrity in 8 of 11 ROIs and worse performance on most cognitive measures, relative to control participants. Persons with mild TBI did not differ from controls on white matter integrity values and differed on one measure of processing speed. Management of nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease (NTM-LD) can be encumbered by difficult diagnostic criteria and complex treatment decisions. As prevalence of this debilitating, often refractory, progressive lung disease increases globally, management must evolve beyond antimicrobials to encompass holistic and customized treatments coordinated by practitioners across various specialties.
This review aims to complement the recently updated NTM-LD treatment guidelines and expand current approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and disease management in a multidisciplinary dimension. The foundation of effective long-term management of NTM-LD is awareness of diagnostic criteria, individual patient risk factors, and the importance of managing underlying pulmonary and nonpulmonary comorbidities. The value of adopting all available pharmacological and nonpharmacological treatment modalities with a patient-centered approach to address the needs of long-term patient care cannot be minimized.

Microwave ablation is effective for severe secondary hyperparathyroidism, but the difference in efficacy between microwave ablation and parathyroidectomy remains unclear. In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, we compared the long-term clinical efficacy of microwave ablation and parathyroidectomy for severe secondary hyperparathyroidism undergoing hemodialysis.
The patients were divided into microwave ablation and parathyroidectomy groups. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) concentrations within the target range (100-600 pg/mL) during the efficacy assessment phase. The secondary endpoints were (i) differences in iPTH concentrations over time between the two groups, and (ii) decreases in iPTH concentrations over time in the two groups.
Microwave ablation was performed in 47/92 patients and parathyroidectomy in 45/92. Primary endpoint iPTH concentrations within the target range were achieved during the efficacy assessment phase in 26/47 patients (55.3%) and in 14/45 (31.1%) patients in the microwave ablation and parathyroidectomy groups, respectively (
