Few studies have investigated researchers’ ethical concerns related to sharing results with research participants. Methods An explanatory approach was used to explore the ethical concerns researchers may have with returning aggregate results to research participants. Researchers (N = 414) responded to an online survey of open-ended questions that allowed researchers to provide in-depth explanations regarding their responses to closed-ended questions. Results Across researchers, the mean percentage of studies for which ethical concerns were reported as a barrier to results sharing was 38.5% (SD= 30.7). Researchers’ primary ethical concerns with returning results were articulated as an overarching desire to prevent harm to participants. Three broad ethical concerns emerged, each with underlying subthemes 1) distress, 2) understanding, and 3) privacy. Conclusions This is the first study to broadly explore researchers’ ethical concerns with sharing aggregate research results with participants and reveals that researchers’ ethical concerns are closely tied to the ethical obligation to do no harm. In order to increase results sharing, steps must be taken to help researchers understand how to minimize potential harm when sharing results.Aim To prepare pH-sensitive nanoparticle composed of alendronate (ALN) and polyamindoamine (PAMAM) to treat bone metastases of lung cancer. Methods The solvent evaporation method was used to prepare docetaxel (DTX)-loaded ALN-PAMAM nanoparticles (DTX@ALN-PAMAM). Results The in vitro results showed DTX@ALN-PAMAM significantly enhanced the anticancer activity of DTX and inhibited the formation of osteoclasts. DTX@ALN-PAMAM concentrated at bone metastasis site in mice, which resulted in the suppression of bone resorption, pain response and growth of bone metastases. Eventually, the therapeutic effect of DTX on bone metastases of lung cancer was obviously improved. Conclusion ALN modified PAMAM nanoparticle could be an effective platform for the treatment of bone metastases of lung cancer.Penicillium marneffei is a thermally dimorphic fungus that causes penicilliosis, and become the third-most-common opportunistic fungal infection in immunocompromised patients in Southeast Asia. Azoles and amphotericin B have been introduced for the treatment, however, it is important to investigate possible mechanisms of azole resistance for future treatment failure. We identified 177 putative MFS transporters and classified into 17 subfamilies. Among those, members of the DrugH+ antiporter 1 subfamily are known to confer resistance to antifungals. Out of 39 paralogs, three (encoded by PmMDR1, PmMDR2, and PmMDR3) were heterologously overexpressed in S. cerevisiae AD∆ conferred resistance to various drugs and compounds including azoles, albeit to different degrees. PmMDR1-expressing strain showed resistance to the broadest range of drugs, followed by the PmMDR3, and PmMDR2 conferred weak resistance to a limited range of drugs. We conclude that PmMDR1 and PmMDR3, may be able to serve as multidrug efflux pumps.Liangshan cattle are a very small indigenous breed with adult weight of less than 300 Kg and have been mainly distributed in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Southwestern Sichuan, China. Due to its long-term adaptation to local environments, Liangshan cattle is a valuable genetic resource and should be paid with more attentions. However, the genetic diversity of Liangshan cattle have not been specifically investigated yet, which would be required when designing the appropriate conservation and utilization programs. In this study, we successfully employed the restriction-site-associated DNA sequencing (RAD-seq) approach to explore a total of 84,854 genome-wide and high-confidence SNPs of Liangshan cattle. All these SNPs were evenly distributed through all chromosomes with an average of 98 SNPs per 1-Mb region. The nucleotide diversity, expected heterozygosity, polymorphism information content of Liangshan cattle were 0.227, 0.223 and 0.183, respectively. Furthermore, there was no obvious difference on the genetic diversity among the three studied geographical populations. In conclusion, we provided a list of SNPs that could be used in the follow-up studies for Liangshan cattle and revealed a relatively high genetic variation in this gene pool.In order to evaluate the possibility of using IgY as the secondary antibody in immunoassay, specific IgY (1 128,000) was generated by immunizing hens with mouse serum IgG purified by protein A column. IgY was extracted from egg yolk by polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG-6000), and further purified using protein M affinity chromatography column. The purified IgY was conjugated with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), in that order. The reactivity of conjugated antibodies was evaluated by ELISA, Western blot and Immunofluorescence, demonstrating that the obtained IgY was able to conjugate with enzymes, react with mouse primary IgG antibody, and subsequently amplify the antigen-antibody signals in different immune reaction conditions, in a comparable secondary effect to conventional goat anti-mouse IgG antibody. The obtained conjugated antibodies showed high stability in broad pH ranges (4-10; >70%) and high thermostability at 37 °C for 84 h (>85%). Despite the need to further consider and evaluate the industrial standardization and production process, our data provided the primary evidence that conjugated IgY antibodies can be used as a secondary antibody for broad immunological analysis. This study aimed to synthesize Bi2Fe4O9 and apply it to the degradation of tartrazine yellow dye. Bi2Fe4O9 was synthesized using the solid-state reaction and the Pechini method. The materials obtained were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), visible ultraviolet spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FEG). Temsirolimus supplier The microscopic images revealed a morphological difference between the two materials in which the material obtained by the Pechini method is the most porous and have the largest surface area. The pellet obtained by the Pechini method was seen to have a lower bandgap value when compared with the sample solid state reaction. In the photocatalysis tests, the best performance was also that of the material obtained by the Pechini method, with 99.34% degradation, while the material obtained by solid state reaction showed 85.86% in 120 minutes. The solution degraded with the material obtained by the Pechini method presented 81.66% of mineralization while the solution with the material obtained by solid state reaction showed 60.
