Therefore, this meta-analysis aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of partial adrenalectomy (PA) to total adrenalectomy (TA) by comparing perioperative and functional outcomes. A systematic search was performed across Pubmed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library database for RCTs and non-RCTs comparing PA and TA on unilateral aldosterone-producing adenoma. The main outcomes analyzed were the perioperative and postoperative effectiveness. In addition, weighted mean difference (WMD) or odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals of continuous and dichotomous variables are presented. Two RCTs and 5 non-RCTs trials, including 834 patients were identified and included in the meta-analysis. PA was associated with statistically significant shorter hospital stay (WMD - 0.51 days, 95% CI - 0.87, - 0.14; p = 0.007), shorter operative time (WMD - 15.54 min, 95% CI - 25.12, - 5.97; p = 0.001) and lower overall complications (OR 0.52, 95% CI 0.32, 0.85; p = 0.009) compared to TA. There was no statistical significance in postoperative effectiveness, including postoperative blood pressure, potassium, hypokalemia, ARR and renin between TA and PA. When technically feasible, PA might be considered as a better treatment for unilateral aldosterone-producing adenoma.

    Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR amyloidosis) is a progressive, clinically heterogeneous disease with spontaneous (wild-type) and hereditary (ATTRv) forms. The Glu89Gln variant is primarily associated with cardiomyopathy and prevalent in Italy and Bulgaria. The objective of this analysis was to better understand the profile of patients with ATTRv Glu89Gln amyloidosis in the Transthyretin Amyloidosis Outcomes Survey (THAOS).

    THAOS is an ongoing, global, longitudinal, observational survey of patients with ATTR amyloidosis, including both inherited and wild-type disease, and asymptomatic carriers with mutations in the transthyretin gene. Demographic and clinical characteristics of all symptomatic patients with the ATTRv Glu89Gln variant enrolled in THAOS are described (data cutoff, January 6, 2020).

    There were 91 patients with ATTRv Glu89Gln amyloidosis with the majority from Bulgaria (n = 53) or Italy (n = 29). All patients were Caucasian and 50.5% were male. Patients from Bulgaria had a mean (standard deviation) age at enrollment of 57.1 (8.2) years, and duration of symptoms of 8.6 (9.6) years, compared with 54.8 (8.6) and 5.0 (4.1) years in Italy. In Bulgaria, 39.6% of patients were of a predominantly cardiac phenotype, 18.9% predominantly neurologic, and 41.5% mixed. In Italy, 3.4% of patients were predominantly cardiac, 62.1% predominantly neurologic, and 34.5% mixed.

    The majority of patients with ATTRv Glu89Gln amyloidosis in THAOS are from Bulgaria or Italy. There were notable phenotypic differences, with the cardiac phenotype more common in Bulgaria and the neurologic phenotype more common in Italy. Over one-third of patients had a mixed phenotype, suggesting a potential role of multiple genetic and/or environmental factors and the need for comprehensive assessment of all patients.

    ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00628745.An oxfendazole (OFZ) nanocrystal suspension was prepared by acid-base neutralization and crystallization combined with ultrasonic dispersion to overcome the challenge of its poor oral bioavailability. The nanosuspensions were screened and optimized by single-factor experiments and an orthogonal design using size and appearance as indices. The morphology (differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD)) properties and pharmacokinetics of the best formulation were further developed. The results showed that the best cosolvent and stabilizer were malic acid and hydrogenated castor oil polyoxyethylene ether (HEL-40), respectively. Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that the oxfendazole nanocrystals are irregular sheets with relative uniformity. The prepared nanocrystals have an average particle diameter of 431 ± 18 nm, a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.376 ± 0.128, a zeta potential of 2.30 ± 0.44 mV, and a sedimentation coefficient of 0.993. The equilibrium solubility of nanocrystals in different solvents was significantly improved by 2.02-109.99-fold compared to OFZ crude. In 0.5% SDS-PBS (pH 2) and 0.5% SDS-PBS (pH 8) solution, oxfendazole nanocrystals were completely released within 5 min, while the OFZ crude only released 60.26% and 28.31%, respectively. The pharmacokinetics showed that the Cmax, Tmax, and AUC0-∞ of OFZ nanosuspension and OFZ granules in rats after oral dosage at 50 mg/kg were 4.23 and 13.63 μg/mL, 2.04 and 1.67 h, and 111.36 and 295.80 μg*h/mL, respectively. The relative bioavailability of the oxfendazole nanosuspension was 265.61% compared to the OFZ granules. These results showed that the nanosuspension might be a promising oral formulation for the hardly soluble OFZ.Laurel (Laurus nobilis L.) has been used in the Mediterranean basin since ancient ages. Nowadays, Turkey, Mexico, Portugal, Italy, Spain, France, Algeria, and Morocco use aromatic leaves for commercial purposes, and Turkey is the largest exporter in the world. In this study, molecular characterization, and genetic relationships of 94 Turkish laurel genotypes were determined by ISSR and SCoT markers. The experiment was conducted with 16 ISSR and 10 SCoT markers. While 348 of 373 bands were polymorphic with a 93.3% polymorphism rate, Nei’s genetic distances ranged between 0.17 and 0.70 with 0.39 mean in ISSR. In SCoT, 175 of 227 bands were polymorphic with 77.1% polymorphism rate, and Nei’s genetic distances varied between 0.12 and 0.51. Sufficient genetic diversity determined with diversity parameters consisting of the average Shannon’s information index (ISSR 0.46, SCoT0.35), the overall gene diversity (ISSR0.19, SCoT0.18), and the effective number of alleles (ISSR1.52, SCoT1.38). AMOVA (Analysis of molecular variance) revealed most of the variation was within genotypes (96%).
