    The present study investigated the factor structure of positive aspects of caregiving (PAC) scale among primary informal caregivers providing care to persons with dementia (PWD) in Singapore.

    282 primary informal caregivers of PWD were recruited from the Institute of Mental Health, and Changi General Hospital and administered the 9-item PAC scale. A confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) was conducted to test the model fit of the 9-item PAC proposed by the scale developer and multiple linear regression was used to investigate the significant socio-demographic correlates.

    CFA showed that the 2-factor structure including ‘Self-Affirmation’ and ‘Outlook on Life’ had an acceptable model fit. After controlling for confounding variables, Malay caregivers were associated with higher scores on PAC and ‘Self-Affirmation’ compared to caregivers of other ethnicities. Caregivers with Secondary or below education level had higher PAC and ‘Outlook on Life’ scores. Caregivers who had received formal training scored higher in PAC, ‘Self-Affirmation’ and ‘Outlook on Life’.

    The present study confirmed that the 2-factor structure of the 9-item PAC was suitable for informal caregivers of PWD in Singapore. The findings have important implications for locally available interventions to enhance caregiver’s psychological well-being and reduce burden of care.

    The addition of maternal age to fasting plasma glucose (FPG) at 24-28 gestational weeks improves the performance of GDM screening as maternal age increases. However, this method delays the diagnosis of GDM. Since FPG at the first prenatal visit (FPV) is a screening option for pre-existing diabetes, we evaluated the performance of age plus FPG at the FPV to reduce the need for the OGTT.

    Pregnant women were recruited consecutively in 2013-2018 (the training cohort) and 2019 (the validation cohort). We excluded women with twin pregnancies, unavailable FPG at the FPV or OGTT data, pre-pregnancy diabetes, or a history of GDM. All participants underwent FPG and haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) at the FPV and received 75-g OGTT at 24-28 gestational weeks if FPG at the FPV was <92 mg/dL. GDM was diagnosed by the IADPSG criteria. Two algorithms were developed with the cutoffs determined when the percentage requiring OGTT (OGTT%) was the lowest and the sensitivity was ≥90%.

Wistar Hannover rat dams (the parental, P generation) were maintained on normal-fat diet (NFD) or HFD from weaning and were kept on respective diets through pregnancy and lactation. Their offspring (the first filial, F1 generation) were weaned onto the same diet as the P generation, or they were changed to the other diet to determine if combined HFD in the P and F1 generations exaggerates body weight and blood pressure levels during pregnancy in these offspring. This diet paradigm resulted in the following groups of pregnant F1 offspring P-NFD/F1-NFD, P-HFD/F1-NFD, P-NFD/F1-HFD, and P-HFD/F1-HFD.
