Dental composite is the most used aesthetic restorative biomaterial worldwide. However, it undergoes polymerisation shrinkage that could lead to loss of the interfacial seal between tooth and resin in some circumstances. This demands high-resolution imaging technologies to detect these defects. This study carried out a comparison between microcomputed tomography (micro-CT; Shimadzu, Japan) and swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT; Santec, Japan) in the detection of marginal adaptation defects at the tooth-resin interface. Unlike in micro-CT, it was possible to outline interfacial gaps along with tooth-resin interfaces with SS-OCT, which was attributed to the Fresnel diffraction of light. This in vitro comparison demonstrates SS-OCT has great potential in dental imaging to effectively assess dental composite adaptation and marginal defects when high resolution is desired in real time. LAY DESCRIPTION Detection of tooth-colored restoration defects had been assessed by different radiographic methods. However, most of these methods are either invasive or suffer from low-resolution. In this study, a comparison has been carried out between two different high-resolution imaging systems; microcomputed tomography and optical coherence tomography, to explore their potentials in detecting restorations defects. The results showed optical coherence tomography has a great accuracy in locating the underlying defects when the obtained images were validated against confocal laser scanning microscopy images.
The present case report presents the most extreme negative aspects of gaming, namely PUBG-related suicide during the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic in Pakistan.
Three suicide cases of extreme gamers occurred within a few days of each other in Lahore, Pakistan. All three were young males aged 16-20 years and their suicides appear to be related to PUBG addiction. It is likely that all three individuals experienced other predisposing factors relating to psychological instability.
For vulnerable groups such as adolescents and emerging adults who have psychological predispositions and/or other comorbidities, engrossing videogames which take up many hours a day such as PUBG may pose a risk which in the most extreme cases may be fatal.

The biofouling propensity of different materials (polystyrene, borosilicate glass, polymethyl methacrylate, and polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified) and coatings (two spray-applied and nanoparticle-based superhydrophobic coatings and a hydrogel-based fouling release coating) was evaluated by means of a short-term protein test, using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a model protein, and by the long-term culture of the marine microalga Nannochloropsis gaditana under practical conditions. The results from both methods were similar, confirming that the BSA test predicts microalgal biofouling on surfaces exposed to microalgae cultures whose cells secrete macromolecules, such as proteins, with a high capacity for forming a conditioning film before cell adhesion. The hydrogel-based coating showed significantly reduced BSA and N. gaditana adhesion, whereas the other surfaces failed to control biofouling. Microalgal biofouling was associated with an increased concentration of sticky extracellular proteins at low N/P ratios (below 15).Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are highly prevalent potential risk factors for systemic disease. Previous studies have reported that COPD and OSA are major independent risk factors for cardio‑ or cerebrovascular diseases. selleck inhibitor The present study aimed to investigate the role of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) on vascular injury in a COPD‑OSA overlap syndrome (OS) rat model. Rats were randomly divided into three groups Sham, OS model and BMSC. BMSC localization in major organs was detected via confocal laser fluorescence microscopy, and the aortic tissue pathological changes and related genes were measured using hematoxylin & eosin and Masson staining. Genes associated with vascular endothelial cell injury, including endothelin 1, vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 and endothelial nitric oxide synthase, were detected via reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR and western blotting. Apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells was detected using TUNEL and immunofluorescence assays. The endothelial cell marker CD31 in injured vessels was analyzed via immunohistochemistry. BMSCs migrated into the heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, brain and aorta in the OS model. The green fluorescence expression of BMSCs demonstrated the highest level in the lung, followed by the aorta. Aortic tissue had a more severe vascular injury and increased apoptosis in the model group compared with the BMSC group. Vascular endothelial cell apoptosis was decreased in the BMSC group compared with the model group. The findings suggested that BMSCs could repair vascular injury by inhibiting endothelial cell damage and apoptosis. These data provide a theoretical basis for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases caused by OS with BMSCs.Itch is an unpleasant and aversive somatosensory experience. These negative emotions significantly affect mental health in patients with chronic itch; it is therefore important to understand the brain mechanism of negative emotions due to itch. The amygdala is a key hub of networks regulating negative emotions due to itch. However, the exact network involved in this process is unknown. This study used functional magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the amygdala network processing itch in 25 healthy subjects. Brain activity was measured during electrical itch stimuli using functional magnetic resonance imaging. During itch stimuli the amygdala exhibited increased functional connectivity with key brain regions of the serotonergic system responsible for negative emotions (the medial habenula and the median raphe nucleus) and with the memory system, which is responsible for consolidating emotional experiences (the parahippocampus and perirhinal cortex). The serotonergic and memory systems may become therapeutic targets to prevent or reduce diminished mental health commonly seen in chronic itch patients.
