This study aimed to quantify the variability in the values of radiomic features extracted from a right parotid gland (RPG) delineated by a series of independent observers.
This was a secondary analysis of anonymous data from a delineation workshop. Inter-observer variability of the RPG from 40 participants was quantified using DICE similarity coefficient (DSC) and Hausdorff distance (HD). An additional contour was generated using Varian SmartSegmentation. Radiomic features extracted include four shape features, six histogram features, and 32 texture features. The absolute mean paired percentage difference (PPD) in feature values from the expert and participants were ranked . Feature robustness was classified using pre- determined thresholds.
63% of participants achieved a DSC>0.7, the auto- segmentation DSC was 0.76. The average HD for the participants was 16.16mm±0.66mm, and 15.16mm for the auto-segmentation. 48% (n=20) and 33% (n=14) of features were deemed to be robust with a mean absolute PPD<5%, for the auto-segmentation and manual delineations respectively; the majority of which were from the grey-run length matrix family. 7% (n=3) of features from the auto- segmentation and 10% (n=4) from the manual contours were deemed to be unstable with a mean absolute PPD>50%. The value of the most robust feature was not related to DSC and HD.
Inter-observer delineation variability affects the value of the radiomic features extracted from the RPG. This study identifies the radiomic features least sensitive to these uncertainties. Further investigation of the clinical relevance of these features in prediction of xerostomia is warranted.

The ways in which students with deafness process syntactic and semantic cues while reading sentences are unclear. While some studies have supported the preference for semantic cues, others have not.
To examine differences in the processing of syntactic versus semantic cues during sentence reading among students who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH).
Twenty DHH students (mean age = 12.48 years) and 20 chronologically age-matched students with typical hearing (TH) were asked to read sentences written in Spanish with different grammatical structures and to choose the picture that best matched the sentences’ meaning while their eye movements were being registered. The picture options were manipulated so that, in addition to the correct ones, there were lexical distractors and syntactic distractors.
The TH participants outperformed the DHH participants in reading complex sentences but not simple sentences in the active voice. In the correctly answered trials, both groups fixated longer and made more fixations on the target than on the syntactic distractor than on the lexical distractor. DHH participants made significantly longer fixations on the lexical distractions.

Lots of literatures have proved that PFOA exposure could disrupt detoxifying function in a variety of organisms, however, it still remained poorly known about this in mollusk. Here, we examined physiological, transcriptomic, and metabolomic responses to PFOA in Mytilus edulis, a model organism frequently used in studies of aquatic pollution. We aimed to characterize PFOA-induced stress responses and detoxification mechanisms. PFOA exposure significantly altered antioxidant enzyme activity levels and the abundances of lipid peroxidation products. In addition, transcriptomic analysis indicated that several genes associated with oxidative stress and detoxication were differentially expressed after PFOA exposure. In combination, transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses showed that PFOA exposure disturbed several metabolic processes in M. edulis, including the lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism etc. Molecular examination and enzymes assay of PFOA-exposed M. edulis after a 7-day depuration period still did not recover to control levels. The Pathway enrichment analysis proved that several pathways related to detoxification, such as c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and p38-dependent mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) pathway etc, were obviously affected. The focus of the present paper was to examine the quality of honey from within the vicinity of an abandoned pesticide store in Masindi District in western Uganda. Surficial soils ( less then 20 cm depths) and honey samples were collected from within the vicinity of the abandoned pesticide store and analysed for organochlorine pesticide (OCP) residues using gas chromatograph coupled to an electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The mean level of ∑DDTs in all the soil samples was 503.6 µg/kg dry weight (d.w). ∑DDTs contributed 92.2% to the ∑OCPs contamination loads in the soil samples, and others (lindane, aldrin, dieldrin, and endosulfans) contributed only 7.8%. Ratio (p, p’-DDE+p, p’-DDD)/p, p’-DDT of 1.54 suggested historical DDT input in the area. In all the honey samples, the mean level of ∑DDTs was 20.
