Degenerative spine disease is common in athletes and can progress to requiring surgical intervention. Traditional open surgical techniques necessitate prolonged recovery time and time away from play. Newly developed endoscopic surgical techniques may promote faster healing and recovery, and increased return to play. The goal of this paper is to summarize the current evidence in return to play after spine surgery and to present our series of 3 athletes who underwent endoscopic spine surgery.
A complete search of all PubMed indexed articles pertaining to spine surgery in athletes was conducted. This was supplemented by a 3-patient case series of our own endoscopic spine experience in athletes.
There are no current widely accepted guidelines for return to play after spinal surgery. The best evidence available cites a return to play of 81% at 5.2-8.7 months after traditional open and minimally invasive surgery, and endoscopic surgery produces an average 88% return to play rate at 3 months.

Comparatively, fewer data exist on the effectiveness of these techniques in treating posterior circulation occlusions. This review analyzes and reports on the usefulness and outcomes of emergent thrombectomy in large-vessel occlusions affecting the posterior circulation.
A literature review was performed to identify all studies of patients with AIS in the posterior circulation who underwent endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EMT) with stent retrievers and/or aspiration devices that were reported between January 1, 2015 and February 12, 2019. Favorable outcomes were defined as a modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score 0-2 at 3 months follow-up. Successful reperfusion was defined as modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction score of 2b-3.

PubMed, SCOPUS, Web of Science, and ResearchGate were reviewed for radiosurgery and callosotomy in the English language following PRISMA guidelines. The patient profile, radiosurgical parameters (dose and isodose), target volume, extent of radiosurgery (anterior third, half, or posterior third callosotomy), and seizure outcome were evaluated. We evaluated the role of radiosurgery as a primary or secondary treatment modality after microsurgery. A literature review was performed to identify the evidence of radiosurgery.
We identified 7 studies detailing 12 patients of mean age 22.8 years (range, 4-58 years) and a mean of 18.9 years ourse of steroids. Two patients needed redo radiosurgery (at the same target in 1 patient and complementary middle third callosotomy to previous anterior third callosotomy in another patient). There were no long-term complications.

To assess the safety and efficacy of patient-specific three-dimensional (3D) rapid-prototype printing technology for pedicle screw insertion in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).
The 3D pedicle screw guides were produced after selecting the fixation points for all individual levels to be used intraoperatively. Preoperative computed tomography images recreated 3D bone models of each vertebra specific to each patient. Safe pedicle trajectories were determined in all 3 planes on these models. 3D printed guides were modeled according to these trajectories and manufactured with a biocompatible material. Postoperatively, all screws were evaluated and scored with computed tomography as class 1 (accurate), class 2 (inaccurate), or class 3 (deviated). The mean angle between the inserted pedicle screw and the intended trajectory, and the mean distance between the central longitudinal axis of a screw and pedicle were also measured.
