Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) is implicated in several cancers, including gastric cancer. However, limited data are available regarding its clinical significance in early gastric cancer (EGC). We evaluated the clinical significance of HER2 overexpression in patients with EGC. We retrospectively reviewed 727 patients who underwent surgical treatment for EGC between October 2010 and August 2017. HER2 expression was analysed in 680 EGC cases by immunohistochemistry and classified as negative (0 and 1+), equivocal (2+), or positive [overexpression (3+)]. Among patients with differentiated EGC, the number of patients with HER2 overexpression was not significantly different from that of HER2-negative patients in terms of age, sex, tumour size, location, gross type, depth of invasion, presence of lymphovascular invasion (LVI), and presence of lymph node metastasis (LNM). However, in patients with undifferentiated EGC, HER2 overexpression was significantly correlated with LVI and presence of LNM compared with HER2-negative patients. Multivariate analysis indicated HER2 overexpression as a good predictive marker of LNM in patients with undifferentiated EGC. HER2 expression is associated with LNM in undifferentiated EGC. Therefore, the importance of HER2 overexpression in EGC should not be overlooked, and further studies are needed to identify its clinical significance.Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a small Gram-negative bacterium and an obligate predator of other Gram-negative bacteria. Prey resistance to B. bacteriovorus attack is rare and transient. MPP+ iodide This consideration together with its safety and low immunogenicity makes B. bacteriovorus a valid alternative to antibiotics, especially in the treatment of multidrug resistant pathogens. In this study we developed a novel technique to estimate B. bacteriovorus sensitivity against antibiotics in order to make feasible the development and testing of co-therapies with antibiotics that would increase its antimicrobial efficacy and at the same time reduce the development of drug resistance. Results from tests performed with this technique show that among all tested antibiotics, trimethoprim has the lowest antimicrobial effect on B. bacteriovorus. Additional experiments revealed that the mechanism of trimethoprim resistance in B. bacteriovorus depends on the low affinity of this compound for the B. bacteriovorus dihydrofolate reductase (Bd DHFR).We investigated the efficacy of and risk from holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) due to discontinuation of antithrombotics in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Patients in the prospective SNUH-BPH Database Registry who underwent HoLEP between December 2010 and December 2017 were enrolled. Preoperative evaluation included symptom score questionnaires, laboratory tests, urine tests, prostate-specific antigens, urodynamic study, and transrectal ultrasonography. Postoperative evaluation was performed at 2 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months. Information regarding the types of antithrombotics and their use, underlying disease, and antithrombotic management during surgery was collected. The study included 55 patients. The mean age and preoperative prostate volume were 68.7 ± 6.4 years and 70.3 ± 32.2 mL, respectively. The mean preoperative hemoglobin level was 13.5 ± 2.6 g/dL in the patients receiving antithrombotics. Of the patients, 71% were taking aspirin. Seventy-five (66.5%) and 70 patients (28.2%) discontinued the antithrombotic therapy 5-7 days and less then 1 week preoperatively, respectively. Three patients (1.21%) were switched to low-molecular-weight heparin therapy, and 10 (4.03%) continued antithrombotic therapy. No significant differences were found in the incidence rates of postoperative transfusion (p = 0.894) or complications from antithrombotic use, thrombosis (p = 0.946), haemorrhage requiring bladder irrigation (p = 0.959), transurethral coagulation (p = 0.894), cardiovascular events (p = 0.845), and cerebrovascular events (p = 0.848). Efficacy and complications related to the short-term antithrombotic withdrawal before and after HoLEP also showed no significant differences. HoLEP may be a beneficial surgical technique for patients with BPH who are receiving antithrombotics.Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers in diamonds have been shown in recent years to be excellent magnetometers on the nanoscale. One of the recent applications of the quantum sensor is retrieving the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectrum of a minute sample, whose net polarization is well below the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of classic devices. The information in the magnetic noise of diffusing particles has also been shown in decoherence spectroscopy approaches to provide a method for measuring different physical parameters. Similar noise is induced on the NV center by a flowing liquid. However, when the noise created by diffusion effects is more dominant than the noise of the drift, it is unclear whether the velocity can be efficiently estimated. Here we propose a non-intrusive setup for measuring the drift velocity near the surface of a flow channel based on magnetic field quantum sensing using NV centers. We provide a detailed analysis of the sensitivity for different measurement protocols, and we show that our nanoscale velocimetry scheme outperforms current fluorescence based approaches even when diffusion noise is dominant. Our scheme can be applied for the investigation of microfluidic channels, where the drift velocity is usually low and the flow properties are currently unclear. A better understanding of these properties is essential for the future development of microfluidic and nanofluidic infrastructures. In this paper, for the first time, the switchable two-color quantum dot laser has been realized considering solution process technology, which has both simultaneous and lonely lasing capability exploiting selective energy contacts. Furthermore, both channels can be modulated independently, which is a significant feature in high-speed data transmission. To this end, utilizing superimposed quantum dots with various radii in the active layer provides the different emission wavelengths. In order to achieve the different sizes of QDs, solution process technology has been used as a cost-effectiveness and fabrication ease method. Moreover, at the introduced structure to accomplish the idea, the quantum wells are used as separate selective energy contacts to control the lasing channels at the desired wavelength. It makes the prominent device have simultaneous lasing at different emission wavelengths or be able to lase just at one wavelength. The performance of the proposed device has been modeled based on developed rate equation by assuming inhomogeneous broadening of energy levels as a consequence of the size distribution of quantum dots and considering tunnel injection of carriers into the quantum dots via selective energy contacts.
