Although tooth transplantation is a useful treatment option as a substitute for a missing tooth, transplantation to a narrow alveolar ridge is not feasible. In this study, we tested a tissue engineering approach simultaneously with tooth transplantation using a scaffold or a combination with cells to accelerate bone formation and periodontal tissue regeneration.

Bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) were harvested from C57BL/6J mice. The upper first or the second molar of 3-week-old C57BL/6J mice and a β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) scaffold were transplanted with BM-MNCs (MNC group) or without BM-MNCs (β-TCP group) into the thigh muscle of syngeneic mice. #link# The tooth alone was also transplanted (control group). After 4weeks, the transplants were harvested and analyzed.

Bone volume was significantly larger in the MNC and the β-TCP groups than that in the control group, and the newly formed bone was observed on the lateral wall of the root. Compared with the control group, the MNC group showed a larger trabecular thickness and fractal dimension.

This study showed accelerated bone formation and periodontal tissue regeneration when tooth transplantation was performed with a β-TCP scaffold. BM-MNCs may accelerate bone maturation, while the effect on bone formation was limited.

However, developing X-ray detectors that are stable and sensitive to hard X-rays (80 to 120 keV) for practical medical imaging is highly desired. Here, a sensitive 2D fluorophenethylammonium lead iodide ((F-PEA)2 PbI4 ) perovskite single-crystal hard-X-ray detector from low-cost solution processes is reported. Dipole interaction of organic ions promotes the ordering of benzene rings as well as the supramolecular electrostatic interaction between electron-deficient F atoms with neighbor benzene rings. Supramolecular interactions serve as a supramolecular anchor to stabilize and tune the electronic properties of single crystals. The 2D (F-PEA)2 PbI4 perovskite single crystal exhibits an intrinsic property with record bulk resistivity of 1.36 × 1012 Ω cm, which brings a low device noise for hard X-ray detection. Meanwhile, the ion-migration phenomenon is effectively suppressed, even under the large applied bias of 200 V, by blocking the ion migration paths after anchoring. Consequently, the (F-PEA)2 PbI4 single crystal detector yields a sensitivity of 3402 μC Gy-1 air cm-2 to 120 keVp hard X-rays with lowest detectable X-ray dose rate of 23 nGyair s-1 , outperforming the dominating CsI scintillator of commercial digital radiography systems by acquiring clear X-ray images under much lower dose rate. In addition, the detector shows high operation stability under extremely high-flux X-ray irradiation.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic became a serious health concern globally, patients with chronic diseases have required close attention with regard to general risks and individual treatment. We aimed to reveal the general health status of pediatric asthmatic patients during the pandemic, considering the role of household factors in parental attitudes.

We asked 60 asthmatic patients and their parents to respond to a questionnaire, with the aim of revealing the current health status of the patients and the general approach of the family to asthma management during the pandemic.

A total of eight patients had had an asthma attack during the outbreak, but there was no confirmed correlation with COVID-19 infection. Most of the parents had never considered stopping their children’s current medications. However, the majority of them reported concerns about the failure of the ambulatory care services and almost all saw their children as being at high risk for COVID-19 infection. There was no significant relationship between these concerns and their psychological status (P>0.05).

The crucial point regarding asthma management is to control patients’ medical and psychological status to minimize the effects of the pandemic. MMRi62 should also pay attention to members of the patients’ households because their adaptation to the “new normal” of pandemic may directly affect the patients’ state of health.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a herpesvirus linked to pre-malignant lymphoproliferative diseases and up to nine distinct human tumors. The most frequent EBV-associated malignancies are lymphomas and nasopharyngeal carcinoma. By promoting smooth muscle proliferation, EBV can induce EBV-associated smooth muscle tumors (SMT) which remain a very rare oncological entity. This study reports one case report of SMT and aims to offer the largest review of literature on post-transplantation-SMT (PT-SMT) in kidney transplant recipients, with a focus on therapeutic management and evolution of graft function.

Case reports and case series of PT-SMT in kidney transplant recipients were collected from 1996 to 2019.

A total of 59 PT-SMT were evaluated. The median time at diagnosis was 74.6months after kidney transplantation. The most frequent localizations were liver and lung. EBV seroconversion was notified in all six patients with previously negative status. Preferred therapeutic option was surgery (65.9%), associated with a reduction in immunosuppression (77.2%), which includes switch to mTOR inhibitors (29.5%), and discontinuation of MMF (32%). In our review, 13% of patients experienced rejection, 8.7% lost their graft and went back on hemodialysis; 8.8% of patients died of PT-SMT.

PT-SMT is a rare but serious condition in kidney transplant recipients. EBV seroconversion following transplantation appears as a risk factor in developing PT-SMT in solid-organ recipients. In the absence of guidelines, therapeutic management for PT-SMT is challenging and exposes the patient to high risk of graft loss.
