We sought to explore the association of eating behaviors with subsequent CVD using a nationwide epidemiological database.

    Medical records of 1,941,125 individuals without prior history of CVD were extracted from the Japan Medical Data Center contracting with more than 60 insurers from multiple regions in Japan, mainly including employed working-age individuals. Skipping breakfast <3 times per week, late night dinner <3 times per week, and bedtime snacking <3 times per week were defined as optimal eating behaviors. Median age was 45 (interquartile range 39-53) years, and 1,138,676 were men. Median follow-up period was 978 (interquartile range 481-1790) days. Among them, 948,805 individuals (48.9%) had optimal eating behaviors, whereas 647,383 individuals (33.4%), 283,017 individund subsequent cardiovascular events among the general population, suggesting the potential importance of maintaining optimal eating behaviors for the primordial and primary CVD prevention in the general population.

    Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) has been suggested as an emerging biomarker for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, and mortality.

    Three databases were searched from inception to January 2, 2020, supplemented by scanning reference lists of identified studies. We identified studies that reported associations of baseline serum or plasma B2M and CVD incidence, CVD mortality, or CHD and stroke separately, in either general populations or patients with renal disease. Relative risks (RR) were extracted and harmonized to a comparison of the highest versus lowest third of the distribution of B2M, and the results were aggregated.

    Sixteen studies (5 in general populations, and 11 in renal disease populations) were included, involving 30,988 participants and 5391 CVD events. Based on random-effects meta-analysis, the pooled adjusted RRs comparing the highest versus lowest third of the distribution of B2M were 1.71 (95%CI 1.37-2.13) for CVD, 2.29 (1.51-3.49) for CVD mortality, 1.64 (1.14-2.34) for CHD, and 1.51 (1.28-1.78) for stroke, with little to high heterogeneity between studies (0.0%≤I

The current research developed the Body Image Life Disengagement Questionnaire (BILD-Q) and validated it among four samples of British adolescents. Study 1 (N = 1707; 11-13 years) indicated a 9-item unidimensional scale based on Exploratory Factory Analysis. In Study 2 (N = 1403; 11-13 years), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) showed an acceptable fit overall, but better among girls than boys. Further exploration with CFA in Study 3 (N = 2034; 13-14 years) showed a good to excellent fit overall, and acceptable among both boys and girls. The scale showed good internal consistency and test-retest reliability, and gender invariance indicated the scale can be used comparatively. In Study 4 (N = 288; 13-14 years), convergent validity was supported via expected relationships with body image and related constructs. Concurrent and predictive incremental validity were also evidenced via explaining significant unique variance in well-being. These studies provide support for the BILD-Q as a reliable and valid measure of broader impacts of body image among adolescents, which may benefit intervention evaluation and policy change efforts.

    The main objective of this study was to explore the feasibility and treatment sensitivity of measures of preschool oral language and emergent literacy and numeracy for assessing developing skills of preschool children with sleep disordered breathing (SDB) in New Zealand following adenotonsillectomy.

    Eight preschool children aged 3 years 1 month-4 years 5 months were recruited from a surgical waiting list and matched to controls for age (±3 months) and sex. Tasks designed to be sensitive to growth in oral language and emergent literacy and numeracy were reviewed for contextual fit, adapted as necessary for the New Zealand context, and administered before surgery (baseline), three months post-surgery, and at a seven-month follow-up alongside other measures.

    Growth in oral language and emergent literacy was greater for case children than matched controls, suggesting that the tasks were sensitive to treatment effects. Daratumumab in vitro No such effect was observed for early numeracy tasks. Case children had more symptoms of SDB and behavioral and emotional difficulties than matched controls prior to surgery, and improvements were reported in these domains following surgery.
