    This study aimed to identify personal listening device (PLD) usage habits, listening belief, and perceived change in hearing, and to investigate how the variables related to perceived change in hearing among adolescents.

    The participants were 183 middle school students and 233 high school students from Ulsan. Data were collected by self-reported questionnaires from August 1, 2019, to October 22, 2019, and analyzed with descriptive statistics, χ

    test, Mann-Whitney Utest, and hierarchical multiple logistic regression.

    Most students started to use PLDs from elementary school, and mean preferred listening level was 70.13dB. Mean perceived susceptibility to music-induced hearing loss (MIHL) and perceived barriers to prevent MIHL were 5.18 and 3.40, respectively. Perceived change in hearing was reported on 14.2% of middle school students and 32.2% of high school students, and as the average score of perceived barriers to prevent MIHL increases by one point, the odds of decrease in hearing increase by 2.05 times (p<.001) and 1.35 times (p<.05), respectively.

    Considering that most adolescents are exposed to PLD in elementary schools and about a quarter experienced a decrease in hearing after PLD use, educational programs on hearing conservation are required to start as early as in schools. Particularly, knowledge and skills to overcome barriers to prevent MIHL should be emphasized in educational programs.

In this study, a radial basis function (RBF) mesh morphing method is developed and applied within the finite-volume computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach. The numerical simulations are designed to closely mimic details of recent tomographic particle image velocimetry (TomoPIV) experiments. The numerically simulated dynamic motions of the left ventricle and tri-leaflet biological mitral valve are emulated through the RBF morphing method. The arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) based CFD is performed with the RBF-defined deforming wall boundaries. The results obtained show a good agreement with experiments, confirming the reliability and accuracy of the developed simulation framework.

    Exposure to child maltreatment is a well-known risk factor for suicide ideation among adolescents. Recent stressful life events may also contribute to this risk. However, the association between these risk factors is unclear in the etiology of suicide ideation for adolescents from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

    The present study tested the stress generation and stress sensitivity hypotheses in relation to child maltreatment, recent stressful life events (in the past year), and suicide ideation (in the past two weeks).

    We utilized a sample of diverse, socioeconomically disadvantaged, depressed adolescent girls (N = 175) who were part of a depression treatment intervention.

    Child maltreatment was significantly associated with adolescent suicide ideation, β = .40, p < .001. Results supported the stress sensitivity hypothesis, in that exposure to interpersonal stressors in the past year exacerbated the association between child maltreatment and adolescents’ suicide ideation, β = .18, p < .05. We found evidence for a protective factor, cognitive reappraisal, in the association between stressful life events and suicide ideation, β = -.15, p < .05.

    These findings have several implications for clinical practice and suicide prevention with adolescent girls, and contribute to the extant literature on the role of chronic and acute stress in the etiology of adolescent suicide ideation.

Their anticancer activities were evaluated by MTT assay, the results showed that most compounds exhibited extremely inhibitory effects against hepatoma SMMC-7721 cells. MCC950 In particular, compounds Q2 and Q8 displayed the more potent inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 0.64 and 0.63 μM, which were better than that of gemcitabine (1.40 μM). Further mechanism studies indicated that compounds Q2, Q8, Q13 and Q19 could control the migration of SMMC-7721 cells effectively, and inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells by inhibiting the DNA replication. Western-blot results showed that compounds Q2 and Q8 induced irreversible apoptosis of SMMC-7721 cells by regulating the expression level of apoptose-related proteins. Those studies demonstrated that the penta-1,4-diene-3-one derivatives containing quinazoline and oxime ether fragments merited further research as potential anticancer agents.Flavonoids are abundant in nature, structurally very diversified and largely investigated. However, the subgroup of 2′-hydroxyflavonoids is much less known and not frequently studied. The present review identifies the major naturally-occurring and synthetic 2′-hydroxyflavonoid derivatives and discusses their structural characteristics and biological properties, with a focus on anticancer activities. The pharmacological properties of 2′-hydroxyflavone (2′-HF) and 2′-hydroxyflavanone (2′-HFa) are detailed. Upon binding to the Ral-interacting protein Rlip implicated in the transport of glutathione conjugates, 2′-HFa inhibits tumor cell proliferation and restrict tumor growth, in particular in breast cancer models. Among the synthetic derivatives, the characteristics of the anticancer product 2D08 (2′,3′,4′-trihydroxy flavone) are detailed to shed light on the molecular mechanism of action of this compound, as a regulator of protein SUMOylation. Inhibition of protein SUMOylation by 2D08 blocks cancer cell migration and invasion, and the compound greatly enhances the anticancer effects of conventional cytotoxic drugs like etoposide.
