Situational interest (SI) is one of the promising states that can improve student’s learning and increase the acquired knowledge. Electroencephalogram- (EEG-) based detection of SI could assist in understanding SI neuroscientific causes that, as a result, could explain the SI role in student’s learning. In this study, 26 participants were selected based on questionnaires to participate in the mathematics classroom experiment. SI and personal interest (PI) questionnaires along with knowledge tests were undertaken to measure student’s interest and knowledge levels. A hybrid method combining empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and wavelet transform was developed and employed for feature extraction. The proposed method showed significant difference using the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) test and consistently outperformed other methods in the classification performance using weighted k-nearest neighbours (wkNN). The high classification accuracy of 85.7% with the sensitivity of 81.8% and specificity of 90% revealed that brain oscillation patterns of high SI students are somewhat different than students with low or no SI. In addition, the result suggests that the delta rhythm could have a significant effect on cognitive processing. When forecasting events, multiple types of uncertainty are often inherently present in the modeling process. Various uncertainty typologies exist, and each type of uncertainty has different implications a scientist might want to convey. In this work, we focus on one type of distinction between direct quantitative uncertainty and indirect qualitative uncertainty. Direct quantitative uncertainty describes uncertainty about facts, numbers, and hypotheses that can be communicated in absolute quantitative forms such as probability distributions or confidence intervals. Indirect qualitative uncertainty describes the quality of knowledge concerning how effectively facts, numbers, or hypotheses represent reality, such as evidence confidence scales proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. A large body of research demonstrates that both experts and novices have difficulty reasoning with quantitative uncertainty, and visualizations of uncertainty can help with such traditionally challenging concepts. Hd qualitative uncertainty (low, medium, and high forecaster confidence). The second study results suggest that participants updated their judgments in the direction predicted by both qualitative confidence information (e.g., becoming more conservative when the forecaster confidence is low) and quantitative uncertainty (e.g., becoming more conservative when the variance is increased). Based on the findings from both experiments, we recommend that forecasters present qualitative expressions of model confidence whenever possible alongside quantified uncertainty.Lung hepatoid adenocarcinoma (HAC) is a rare primary lung carcinoma pathologically characterized by hepatocellular carcinoma-like tumor cells, the majority of which produce alpha-fetoprotein (AFP). The clinical prognosis of lung HAC is generally poor, and effective therapeutic regimens for inoperable or recurrent cases have not been established. GSK2643943A cell line Here, we report a case of AFP-producing lung HAC with brain metastasis with long-term disease control, treated with the 5-fluorouracil-derived regimen S-1. The patient was a 66-year-old male admitted to the hospital with alexia. Chest X-ray revealed a massive tumor in the left upper lobe, and a head CT scan revealed a metastasis in the left parietal lobe. The laboratory data showed a remarkably elevated AFP level (97,561 ng/mL). Pathological assessment of the resected brain tumor revealed HAC, which was compatible with the lung biopsies. Together with the absence of other metastatic lesions, a final diagnosis of primary lung HAC, stage IV T4N3M1b, was given. The patient first underwent non-small cell lung cancer chemotherapy regimens (carboplatin and paclitaxel as the first line, and pemetrexed as the second line), but had clinical progression. After third-line oral S-1 (tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil) administration, the serum AFP level significantly dropped and the patient achieved long-term disease control without relapse, surviving more than 19 months after disease presentation. The autopsy result was consistent with the diagnosis of primary lung HAC, and immunohistochemical staining was AFP+, glypican 3+, and spalt-like transcription factor 4+. Here, we report the case of a rare primary lung HAC with apparent disease control on S-1 therapy, together with a literature review.Adenocarcinoma and adenosquamous carcinoma (AS) are 2 rare histological types of cervix uteri cancer constituting almost 20% of all cervix cancers, leading to a lack in patient management guidelines. We report the case of a 32-year-old woman with an oligometastatic cervix AS for which a multimodal treatment approach was used. Despite the patient’s bad prognosis, a complete response was achieved, which further resulted in excellent local control and prolonged survival. This case report serves the purpose of encouraging multidisciplinary team work and out-of-the-box thinking that should result in an individualized treatment for rare cancer subtypes.Minimal uterine serous carcinomas (MUSCs) include serous carcinomas with invasion confined to the endometrium (superficial serous carcinoma) and those without stromal invasion (serous endometrial intraepithelial carcinoma). Although these tumors are confined to the endometrium proper, they have highly metastatic potential for disseminating to extra-uterine sites. We report here a case of MUSC that was initially misdiagnosed as early-stage low-grade endometrioid carcinoma but later metastasized to the abdominopelvic peritoneum. The patient was a 61-year-old woman who was diagnosed with grade 1 endometrioid carcinoma of the endometrium and underwent total hysterectomy. Because the tumor was confined to the endometrium (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics stage IA), no further treatment was performed. However, several metastatic tumor masses were detected in the vaginal stump and abdominopelvic peritoneum 7 years after the surgery. Histologically, the metastatic tumor tissues showed high-grade carcinoma.
