    To present 18-month clinical results for internal compression therapy (ICT) applied percutaneously and as a novel method in the treatment of primary deep venous insufficiency.

    Thirty patients diagnosed with isolated primary femoral vein (FV) insufficiency between October 2017 and February 2018 were included in the study. Pre-procedural femoral vein diameters and reflux durations were measured. CEAP classification and Venous Clinical Severity Score (VCSS) were recorded. Pre-procedural CEAP classifications were CEAP 4 in nine patients and CEAP 3 in 21. Quality of life assessments were carried out using a Chronic Venous Insufficiency Questionnaire (CIVIQ-2). FV diameters were then reduced, and valve coaptation was established with the percutaneous application of hyaluronic acid and cyanoacrylate injected adjacent to a valve with non coapting leaflets. One such approach is the Augmented Community Telerehabilitation Intervention (ACTIV). This structured 6-month program uses limited face-to-face sessions, telephone contact, and text messages to augment stroke rehabilitation.

    This 2-arm, parallel randomized controlled trial was conducted in 4 New Zealand centers. Inclusion criteria were patients with first-ever stroke, age >20 years, and discharged home. Two different explanations were proposed (1) the prevailing view-supported by several experimental and clinical studies-is that a vasodilatory effect of dialysis fluid affects the capillary surface area available for dialysis, and (2) a recently presented alternative explanation is that the molecular radius of glucose increases due to the high glucose concentration in fresh dialysis fluid and that this change affects peritoneal transport parameters. The experimental bases for both phenomena are discussed as well as the problem of the accuracy necessary for a satisfactory description of clinical data when the three-pore model of peritoneal transport is applied. We show that the correction for the change of transport parameters with dwell time provides a better fit with clinical data when applying the three-pore model. Our conclusion is in favor of the traditional interpretation namely that the transitory change of transport parameters with dwell time during peritoneal dialysis is primarily due to the vasodilatory effect of dialysis fluids.Diversifying disease control methods is a key strategy to sustainably reduce pesticides. Plant genetic resistance has long been used to create resistant varieties. Plant resistance inducers (PRI) are also considered to promote crop health, but their effectiveness is partial and can vary according to the environment and the plant genotype. We investigated the putative interaction between intrinsic (genetic) and PRI-induced resistance in apple when affected by scab and fire blight diseases. A large F1 mapping population was challenged by each disease after a pre-treatment with acibenzolar-S-methyl (ASM) and compared with the water control. Apple scab and fire blight resistance quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were detected in both conditions and compared. ASM exhibited a strong effectiveness in reducing both diseases. When combined, QTL-controlled and ASM-induced resistance acted complementarily to reduce the symptoms from 85% to 100% depending on the disease. In our conditions, resistance QTLs were only slightly or rarely affected by ASM treatment, despite their probable implication in various stages of the resistance build-up. Implications of these results are discussed considering already known results, the underlying mechanisms, cross-protection of both types of resistance against pathogen adaptation, and practical application in orchard conditions.Cotton production in Xinjiang, the largest cotton-producing area in China, has an increasingly serious disease threat from Verticillium dahliae. Eighty-five V. dahliae isolates were obtained from wilted cotton plants collected from eight counties in Xinjiang. The isolates were assessed for genotypic diversity by DNA sequence analysis and PCR molecular genotyping with specific markers for race 1, race 2, defoliating (D) pathotype, nondefoliating (ND) pathotype, and mating type idiomorph Mat1-2. Isolates belonged to lineages 1A or 2B, with three subgenotypes found in each lineage. All isolates tested positive for race 2 and Mat1-2 markers. All isolates in lineage 2B tested positive for the ND pathotype marker but only isolates in the major subgenotype in lineage 1A tested positive for the D pathotype marker. Pathogenicity assays on Gossypium hirsutum ‘Acala 44’ demonstrated no significant difference among subgenotypes within each lineage. Isolates in lineage 1A caused greater shoot weight reductions, percent leaf drop, and percent diseased leaves than isolates in lineage 2B.
