The treatment was efficient in water disinfection, presenting an 80% reduction in Fecal Coliforms (FC). Some heavy metals also showed a decrease in their concentration, being as follows Al (65%), Cr (35%), Pb (46%), Zn (60%), Mn (20%), Mo (40%), Fe (32%), As (58%) and Co (26%). Due to the selective reactivity of ozone towards aliphatic and aromatic unsaturated compounds, several organic compounds reduced in their concentration by up to two orders of magnitude. Based on the above, it is evident that the treatment with ozone and oxygen was effective in substantially improving the quality of water in the east side of the Valsequillo reservoir.Introduction Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) include various hematologic abnormalities characterized by chronic cytopenia due to disruption in cellular differentiation. This study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of PLR in patients with MDS. Material and methods Clinical-laboratory findings and the results of bone marrow biopsies of MDS patients before treatment were recorded. p value of less then 0.05 was considered statistically significant. SPSS version 20.0 was used for statistical analysis. Results The study included 62 patients with median follow-up time of 62.8±4.5 months and median age of 68.5 years. In 13 patients, acute leukemia was transformed. In these subjects, a PLR cut-off level of 46 was established for mortality (p=0.015). We found a significant relationship between PLR and multilineage series with the presence of dysplasia (p=0.017). The survival analysis showed a decreased survival in cases with dysplasia in two and/or more series, transformation into acute leukemia, and thrombocytopenia. Conclusion Our study demonstrated that there was a relationship between PLR and MDS with multilineage dysplasia (mld-MDS). PLR is investigated as an inflammatory finding in various hematologic malignancies. Further studies investigating the value of PLR in MDS are needed to determine whether PLR may be a marker of bone marrow dysplasia grading (Tab. 2, Fig. 4, Ref. 32).The university stage is a critical developmental period for young adults, where lifestyles can determine future health. A cross-sectional study including 481 college students was conducted, with the following objectives 1) to examine the prevalence of risk of developing eating disorders in college students, 2) to assess differences in obesity and physical fitness in those with and without risk of eating disorders, and 3) to determine whether cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular fitness or fat mass were associated with the risk of eating disorders. We measured fat mass percentage (by densitometry), risk of feeding or eating disorders (by SCOFF questionnaire), cardiorespiratory fitness levels and a muscular fitness index. The prevalence of risk of eating disorders in women (32.4%) was higher than in men (17.4%) (p less then 0.001). In both sexes, higher obesity indicator mean values were observed among those who were at risk of eating disorders. Men participants without risk had higher cardiorespiratory fitness means than their at-risk peers [39.4 (8.3) vs. 32.4 (5.5), p less then 0.001)], and women showed differences only in the dynamometry/weight variable. In college students, it is necessary to promote healthy habits, including good levels of physical fitness, and to prevent excess body fat to effectively prevent eating disorders.High-Z nanoparticles have emerged as a novel type of radiosensitizers due to their relatively large X-ray cross-section and ability to enhance radical production under irradiation. Recently, CaWO4 nanoparticles have been prepared and their potential as a radiosensitizer has been demonstrated. Herein, we investigated BaWO4 nanoparticles as a novel type of alkaline-earth metal tungstate radiosensitizer for radiotherapy (RT). We synthesized BaWO4 nanoparticles using hydrothermal reaction and coated them with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). We found that BaWO4 nanoparticles could more efficiently enhance hydroxyl radical production under irradiation than CaWO4 nanoparticles. When tested in vitro, BaWO4 nanoparticles showed lower toxicity than CaWO4 nanoparticles in the absence of irradiation, but induced more significant oxidative stress under irradiation. When tested in vivo, BaWO4 nanoparticles led to more efficient tumor inhibition without causing systemic toxicity. Overall, our results suggest that BaWO4 nanoparticles can efficiently enhance RT and hold great potential as a novel type of radiosensitizing agent.Vinyl fluorides play an important role in drug development as bioisosteres for peptide bonds and are found in a range of bioactive molecules. The discovery of safe, general and practical procedures to prepare vinyl fluorides from readily available precursors remains a synthetic challenge. The metal-free hydrofluorination of alkynes constitutes an attractive though elusive strategy for their preparation. Here we introduce an inexpensive and easily-handled reagent that enabled the development of simple and scalable protocols for the regioselective hydrofluorination of alkynes to access both the E and Z isomers of vinyl fluorides. UNC0379 ic50 These conditions were suitable for a diverse collection of alkynes, including several highly-functionalized pharmaceutical derivatives. Computational and experimental mechanistic studies support C-F bond formation through vinyl cation intermediates, with the ( E )- and ( Z )-hydrofluorination products forming under kinetic and thermodynamic control, respectively. Background Acromegaly is an uncommon syndrome caused by growth hormone-producing pituitary adenoma or pituitary gland hypertrophy. Acromegaly is known to be characterized by progressive somatic disfigurement and a wide range of systematic manifestations. This case study describes a rare case of severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) caused by acromegaly. Clinical presentation A female patient presented to the consultant clinic with the chief complaint of progressively worsening sleep and was diagnosed with severe OSA. Because of a peculiar facial appearance of the patient, acromegaly was suspected and confirmed by the findings of hormonal analysis and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). After transsphenoidal resection of the pituitary adenoma, her OSA was almost cured, with residual AHI of 5.5. Conclusion This case highlights the importance of a comprehensive clinical examination of OSA patients. In every sleep-related breathing disorder case, sleep clinicians should be aware of alternate problems that could cause upper airway obstruction.
