One of these competencies is critical thinking (CT), and motivation for critical thinking (MCT) has been identified as an element necessary to develop CT. Expectancy and value are important components of the MCT. This study aimed to analyze sociodemographic and academic factors related to MCT in Chilean nursing students. This study is an analytical-correlational, cross-sectional study conducted with 478 nursing students in Chile. The data were collected using an online questionnaire. The Critical Thinking Motivation Scale was used to measure MCT. Pearson’s square, Chi-square, means comparison test, and binomial logistic regression were used to analyze the data. The expectancy component of the MCT had the lowest scores on the scale. Age was associated with the cost subcomponent (p less then .03), and high school was associated with the interest subcomponent (p less then .01). Academic factors contributing to MCT were problem-based learning, professor motivation, and the inclusion of MCT in nursing disciplinary subjects. Strategies that improve CT and MCT should be implemented and evaluated periodically from the beginning of a nursing career. Faculty should be trained to motivate students to think critically.

We conducted a randomized double-blinded placebo controlled clinical trial in Xiyuan Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. All patients were randomly assigned into QX or placebo control group. Before and after 1-month interventions, we collected patients’ stool samples for microbiome analysis by 16s rRNA sequencing approaches, as well as blood samples to analyze T lymphocyte subsets by flow cytometry methods. Microbiome analysis among groups was done through bioinformation analysis platform. The study had been proved by the ethics committee of Xiyuan Hospital (2016XLA122-1) had been registered on Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (registration number ChiCTR2000029599). This study proposes and tests an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which incorporated perceived affordances (editability and persistence) and communication efficacy. An online survey was conducted with a sample of 525 young adults. Results showed that the editability affordance was conducted with perceived usefulness, while communication efficacy was associated with perceived ease of use of messaging. Editability and communication efficacy also were positively associated intention to use online patient portal messaging features, whereas persistence was negatively associated. Results suggest practitioners should emphasize editability and communication efficacy to increase patient intentions to use messaging features to communicate with a care provider.
Hematologic malignancies account for nearly 8% of new cancer diagnosis in Italy. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most distressing symptoms reported by patients with cancer. As CRF has a multifactorial etiology, physical activity and therapeutic education may be beneficial for managing CRF, both during and after cancer treatment. However, there is a lack of evidence specific to hematologic malignancies. This paper describes the protocol of a feasibility study on Therapeutic Education and Physical Activity (TEPA) intervention to support self-management of CRF in patients with hematologic malignancies.
TEPA was addressed to newly diagnosed adult individuals with hematologic malignancy able to take part in a rehabilitation programme at the AUSL-IRCCS of Reggio Emilia. The protocol was developed in 2 phases. Phase I was an observational cohort study involving a convenience sample of 10 participants with the aim to evaluate the feasibility of the assessment schedule and to register longitudinal clinical data regarding CRF (FACIT-F), psychologic distress (NCCN Distress Thermometer), QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30), physical performance (TUG and 6MWT) and habitual level of physical activity during first months after diagnosis.
