ng equity and access to care. Impact statement Registered nurse prescribers perceive a number of advantages to the addition of prescribing to their own practice and benefits to patients and the health care system by enabling more accessible and cost-effective care.Cyberloafing, the intentional use of the Internet for personal purposes during class hours, has received the scholars’ attention due to the increased access to digital devices in educational settings. Considering the possible negative consequences of misuse of the Internet on health and well-being, the current study aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms of this relationship by examining in detail the role of coping strategies. SU5402 The sample consisted of 272 undergraduate students. The participants were asked to fill out items measuring cyberloafing behaviors, coping strategies (emotion-focused and problem-focused), and psychological symptoms (depression, anxiety, anger, and somatization). The results revealed that cyberloafing is positively related to psychological symptoms. Furthermore, it is observed that cyberloafing moderates the relationship between emotion-focused coping and psychological symptoms such that at high levels of cyberloafing, emotion-focused coping is associated with higher levels of psychological symptoms. These findings contribute to the existing literature on students’ psychological well-being in terms of highlighting its relation with coping strategies and problematic Internet use.The early twentieth century India saw profound paucity in health care delivery and education, and the beliefs of people were ruled mainly by ignorance, superstitions and myths. Diseases like cancer and its treatment were totally unknown during that time in India. Dr Ida Belle Scudder, American woman, came to India to break all norms and sacrificed her entire life to work in a missionary hospital. Gradually she trained herself to treat cancer patients and established a fully equipped radiotherapy centre to treat such patients. Later, the field of radiation oncology was transformed and modernised by another influential woman, Dr Ketayun Ardeshir Dinshaw, who with her leadership attributes left no stone unturned to firmly establish the role of radiation in the management of cancer and bringing its benefits to the people of India. The civil servant Edwin Chadwick (1800-1890) dominated public health policy from 1848 until he was obliged to take early retirement in 1854. Historians have concluded that his activities after 1854 produced no lasting impact. That analysis did not evaluate his contribution to the 1875 Public Health Act. This paper describes how the coordinated activity of Chadwick, Florence Nightingale, and William Farr between 1858 and 1871 produced one of the most successful social reforms in modern history. Unaware of the intellectual capital that this group provided to political decision-makers, historical accounts have tended to attribute the reduction in mortality post-1875 to a natural organic process responding to evident social evils. The rise, fall, and rise again of Chadwick’s influence on public health policy shows how, on the contrary, difficult choices are necessary to resolve social problems. Background Studies that establish the indicators of clinical status deterioration of Ineffective airway clearance remain scarce. Prognostic studies provide data for nurses identify clinical indicators that suggest a higher chance of early development of a nursing diagnosis. Objective To identify the prognostic indicators of short-term survival of ineffective airway clearance (IAC) in children with acute respiratory infection (ARI). Design A prospective open cohort study. Methods This study was with a group of 136 children with acute respiratory infection who were followed for a minimum of six and a maximum of ten consecutive days. Children who had not completed six days of monitoring or who were carriers of diseases that would alter the specific symptoms of respiratory infection were excluded. The survival rate of ineffective airway clearance was calculated using Nelson-Aalen’s method. A Cox regression model was used to analyze the influence of clinical indicators on survival time of this diagnosis. Results The diagnosis survival rate was extremely low (only 0.4% on the 5th day of follow-up). The greatest reduction in survival rate was observed in the first 48 h (survival rate = 2.5%). Four defining characteristics associated with a worse prognosis of IAC among children with ARI ineffective cough (RR = 5.86; 95% CI 3.53-9.72), absence of cough (RR = 2.92; 95% CI 1.68-5.08), adventitious breath sounds (RR = 2.47; 95% CI 2.01-3.03), and diminished breath sounds (RR = 1.23; 95% CI 1.05-1.45). Conclusion Four clinical indicators showed a strong relationship with an increased risk of worsening clinical status associated with this nursing diagnosis. Impact statement Clinical deterioration related to ineffective airway clearance among children with acute respiratory infection is fast and requires particular attention from nurses.
There is a broad spectrum of eye involvement in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). The majority of descriptions are presented as case reports that include mostly APS patients secondary to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), with no compelling evidence in primary APS (PAPS). This study aimed to describe ocular manifestations in our well-defined PAPS cohort (APS-Rio) and then perform a systematic literature review (SLR) of ocular manifestations in patients with APS or positivity to aPL without SLE.
We retrospectively analyzed PAPS patients followed at our outpatient clinics. All patients fulfilled Sydney APS classification criteria (2006). We evaluated them for ocular symptoms and previous ocular diagnoses. Antiphospholipid antibodies and clinical APS manifestations were compared between patients with and without ocular manifestations. For the SLR, electronic databases were searched up to November 2019.
We studied 105 PAPS patients; 90.5% were female and 56.2% were Caucasian. We found ocular manifestations and amaurosis fugax. SU5402 Prospective studies are needed to promote the best treatment and avoid blindness in PAPS patients.
There is little evidence on ocular manifestations in PAPS. We described an association between livedo and amaurosis fugax. Prospective studies are needed to promote the best treatment and avoid blindness in PAPS patients.
