Math Tools for Successful Distance Learning

Session 2: The Desmos Graphing App, Geometry App, and an Introduction to the Desmos Activity Builder

Teacher and author Steve Phelps introduces the basics of the Graphing App, including the following:
● Graphing Functions and piecewise functions
● Creating and using tables for Geometry and Statistics
● Basic Statistics commands.

Teachers will also learn the following components of the Geometry app:
● Basic Constructions
● Labeling and measuring figures
● Basic Transformations

Teachers will then learn how to utilize the Desmos Activity Builder to build a simple graphing and/or geometry activity that will allow them to track student progress in real time. Teachers may also be introduced to creating their own Marbleslides.
For secondary mathematics teachers grades 6-12).

Session 4: GeoGebra and GeoGebra Classroom: Collaboration and Formative Assessment in Real Time
Teacher/author Steve Phelps shows teachers how to search through over a million FREE GeoGebra books and activities, and how to assign these activities to their students using GeoGebra Classroom, which will allow teachers to track their students’ progress in real time.
Teachers will also learn how to take advantage of GeoGebra’s NEW Collaborative Notes app, a virtual whiteboard where teachers can work with students in groups of 2 to 4 and track their progress in real time.

Teacher/author Stacey Roshan returns to discuss creating safe learning environments for all students to find their voice and build their confidence. -the benefits of a flipped classroom that impact student success, collaboration, resourcefulness, and satisfaction.
• Foster a peer-to-peer learning environment, even in a remote learning setting
• Encourage students to see mistakes as part of the learning process
• Quickly get a sense of individual student needs
