Role of these procedures in corona virus transmission when treating a case of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should be further studied.

    This study was aimed to explore the relationship between neural network changes in newly diagnosed children with Benign Childhood Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes (BECTS) and cognitive impairment.

    Children’s cognition was evaluated using the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV). Magnetoencephalographic (MEG) data of 18 healthy children and 22 BECTS patients were recorded in order to construct a functional connectivity (FC) network, which was quantified by graph theory (GT).

    The mean age of the control group was 7.94±1.89years, and the mean age of BECTS patients was 8.14±1.73years. Our results show that the WISC-IV index scores in the BECTS group were significantly lower than those in the control group. Besides, the FC network pattern of BECTS patients changed significantly in the 12-30, 30-80, and 250-500Hz frequency band. The local functional connections between posterior cingulate cortex (PCC) and frontal lobe varied significantly in 12-30, 80-250, and 250-500Hz. Our GTrment in early BECTS children may be related to the changes in the FC network pattern.

    Cardiovascular complications, including myocarditis, are observed in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Major cardiac involvement is a potentially lethal feature in severe cases. We sought to describe the underlying pathophysiological mechanism in COVID-19 lethal cardiogenic shock.

    We report on a 48-year-old male COVID-19 patient with cardiogenic shock; despite extracorporeal life support, dialysis, and massive pharmacological support, this rescue therapy was not successful. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 RNA was detected at autopsy in the lungs and myocardium. Histopathological examination revealed diffuse alveolar damage, proliferation of type II pneumocytes, lymphocytes in the lung interstitium, and pulmonary microemboli. Moreover, patchy muscular, sometimes perivascular, interstitial mononuclear inflammatory infiltrates, dominated by lymphocytes, were seen in the cardiac tissue. The lymphocytes ‘interlocked’ the myocytes, resulting in myocyte degeneration and necrosis. PredominantlyIn the case of myocarditis of other aetiology, the renal tissue displayed no positivity for E06 or 4-HNE.

    In Sub-Saharan Africa breast cancer is commonly detected at younger age and the profile is more aggressive with a high mortality rate compared to the European countries. It is suggested that African-specific genetic background plays a key role in this matter. The present study aimed at understanding the role of genetic factors in breast cancer development in young Rwandan.

    We performed a massive parallel sequencing on Illumina MiSeq NGS system for the screening of 26 genes associated with hereditary breast cancer from 40 patients under 35years old from two University Teaching Hospitals in Kigali, Rwanda. Sanger sequencing was used to confirm pathogenic and likely pathogenic mutations.

    Five patients out of 40 (12.5%) presented with pathogenic mutations including four patients (10%) carrying BRCA1 or BRCA2 pathogenic variants. One patient showed a missense likely pathogenic TP53 variant. We have also detected additional missense, intronic, and 3’UTR variants of unknown significance in all study participants.

    This preliminary study suggests that the frequency of germline mutations in young Rwandan patients with breast cancer is similar to the observations made in Caucasians. However, further large studies including patients and controls are needed to better understand the impact of genetic factors as well as the environmental risk factors in the development of breast cancer in young Rwandans.

    To determine whether 12-month BMI SDS reductions persisted at 24 months in a multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention program for children and adolescents with obesity, and whether secondary outcomes improved.

    This was a community-based 12-month RCT in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Eligible participants were aged 5 to 16 years with BMI ≥98th centile or BMI >91st centile with weight-related comorbidities. The low-intensity control received comprehensive home-based baseline assessments and advice, and 6-monthly follow-up. The high-intensity intervention received the same assessments and advice, but also weekly multidisciplinary sessions. Primary outcome was BMI SDS at 12 months. Secondary outcomes included cardiovascular and metabolic markers.
