Hepatic cystic echinococcosis is the main form of hepatic echinococcosis, which is a life-threatening liver disease caused by parasites that requires a precise diagnosis and proper treatment.
This study focuses on the automatic classification system of five different subtypes of hepatic cystic echinococcosis based on ultrasound images and deep learning algorithms.
Three popular deep convolutional neural networks (VGG19, Inception-v3, and ResNet18) with and without pretrained weights were selected to test their performance on the classification task, and the experiments were followed by a 5-fold cross-validation process.
A total of 1820 abdominal ultrasound images covering five subtypes of hepatic cystic echinococcosis from 967 patients were used in the study. The classification accuracy for the models with pretrained weights (fine-tuning) ranged from 88.2 to 90.6%. The best accuracy of 90.6% was obtained by VGG19. For comparison, the models without pretrained weights (from scratch) achieved a lower accuracy, ranging from 69.4 to 75.1%.

The persistence of physical exercise in anorexia nervosa (AN) despite underweight and its maintaining factors are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to explore the attitudes toward physical exercise and its effects on emotions, cognitive functioning, and body image perception in patients with AN, and to search for exercise-related endophenotypes of the pathology.
Physical exercise dependence, quantity, and dysregulation were assessed by the Exercise Dependence Scale (EDS), the Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) and a standardized effort test in 88 patients with AN, 30 unaffected relatives and 89 healthy controls. Changes in positive and negative affect, cognitive rigidity, and body image distortion were measured before and after the effort test in the three groups.
Patients with AN had higher scores on the EDS and the GLTEQ and used more effort in the standardized effort test. EVP4593 These three measures of physical exercise correlated with negative emotions at baseline. After the effort test, patients with AN had marked emotional improvement, a moderate increase in body image distortion and a small increase in cognitive rigidity compared to HC. Unaffected relatives also had a significant postexercise increase of positive emotion.
The mood-related drive for physical exercise has the characteristics of an endophenotype of the disorder. Excessive and driven physical exercise may be state-associated features of AN, driven by the positive effect on emotional wellbeing.

This study examined the cross-sectional association between diet quality and periodontal disease.
In the Oral Infections, Glucose Intolerance and Insulin Resistance Study (ORIGINS), 923 individuals completed the National Cancer Institute’s validated Diet History Questionnaire 1, from which the Alternative Healthy Eating Index (AHEI) scores and A Priori Diet Quality Scores (APDQS) were calculated. Mean probing depth (MPD), mean clinical attachment loss (MAL) and % of sites bleeding on probing (%BOP) were derived from full-mouth periodontal exams. Multivariable adjusted linear and logistic regression models assessed the associations between diet quality and MPD, MAL, %BOP, and the odds of periodontitis (defined via the CDC/AAP classification).
Alternative Healthy Eating Index and APDQS were not associated with MPD, MAL, or periodontitis. While AHEI was also not associated with %BOP, the APDQS was associated with %BOP (p=.03). Higher nut consumption was related to lower MPD (p=.03) and periodontitis odds (p=.03). Higher red meat consumption was associated with higher MPD (p=.01) and %BOP (p=.05). Higher trans-fatty acid consumption was also associated with increased %BOP (p=.05).
Overall diet quality scores were not associated with periodontal status. Future studies are necessary to replicate the associations observed in this study to minimize the risk of false discovery.

Early diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection is essential for epidemic prevention and control. The detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is an important criterion for diagnosing COVID-19. However, SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing also has certain false positives causing confusion in clinical diagnosis. This article summarizes the causes of false-positive detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in clinical practice. The results indicate that the most common endogenous interferences include rheumatoid factor, heterophile antibodies, human anti-animal antibodies, lysozyme, complement, and cross-antigens. The exogenous interference is mainly incomplete coagulation of the specimen, contamination of the specimen, and insufficient optimization of the diagnostic kit’s reaction system.Nutrient enrichment is widespread throughout grassland systems and expected to increase during the Anthropocene. Trophic interactions, like aboveground herbivory, have been shown to mitigate its effect on plant diversity. Belowground herbivory may also impact these habitats’ response to nutrient enrichment, but its influence is much less understood, and likely to depend on factors such as the herbivores’ preference for dominant species and the symmetry of belowground competition. If preferential toward the dominant, fastest growing species, root herbivores may reduce these species’ relative fitness and support diversity during nutrient enrichment. However, as plant competition belowground is commonly considered to be symmetric, root herbivores may be less impactful than shoot herbivores because they do not reduce any competitive asymmetry between the dominant and subordinate plants. To better understand this system, we used an established, two-layer, grassland community model to run a full-factorially designed simulation experiment, crossing the complete removal of aboveground herbivores and belowground herbivores with nutrient enrichment.
