Developing suitable supports to maximize the atomic utilization efficiency of platinum group metals is of great significance to hydrogen evolution from water splitting. Herein, we report a fully exposed Pt cluster supported on an S-vacancy rich MoS2-x support (Pt/Sv-MoS2-x) by a facile impregnation method. Pt/Sv-MoS2-x exhibits an outstanding electrochemical HER performance with a low overpotential of 26.6 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2, a small Tafel slope of 34.8 mV dec-1 and good durability. Most importantly, the mass activity of Pt is an order of magnitude more active than that of commercial Pt/C at an overpotential of 0.08 V. We attribute this exceptional HER catalytic performance to the fact that platinum and Sv-MoS2-x act in synergy to accelerate the reaction kinetics. The on-surface photogeneration of nonacene from α-bisdiketone precursors deposited on nanostructured epitaxial graphene grown on Ru(0001) has been studied by means of low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. The presence of an unoccupied surface state, spatially localized in the regions where the precursors are adsorbed, and energetically accessible in the region of the electromagnetic spectrum where n-π* transitions take place, allows for a 100% conversion of the precursors into nonacenes. With the help of state-of-the-art theoretical calculations, we show that such a high yield is due to the effective population of the surface state by the incoming light and the ensuing electron transfer to the unoccupied states of the precursors through an inelastic scattering mechanism. Our findings are the experimental confirmation that surface states can play a prominent role in the surface photochemistry of complex molecular systems, in accordance with early theoretical predictions made on small molecules.Memristors are regarded as one of the key devices to break through the traditional Von Neumann computer architecture due to their capability of simulating the function of neural synapses. Among various memristive materials, two-dimensional (2D) materials are promising candidates to build advanced memristors with extremely high integration density and low power consumption. However, memristors based on 2D materials usually suffer from poor endurance and retention due to their vulnerability to material degradation during the formation/fusing processes of conductive filament channels within the switching media of 2D materials. Here, a new memristor architecture based on a WS2/MoS2 2D semiconducting heterojunction (metal/heterojunction/metal, MHM) is proposed, which is completely different from the conventional metal/insulator/metal (MIM) sandwich structure. Through the introduction of a type-II 2D heterojunction, a resistance switching mechanism based on band modulation rather than the conductive filaments can be realized to eliminate the material degradation during the set/reset processes. A prototype MHM memristor based on the WS2/MoS2 heterojunction is successfully developed with a large switching on/off ratio up to 104 and a clearly extended endurance over 120 switching cycles, showing the advantage of the 2D WS2/MoS2 heterojunction over the individual MoS2 or WS2 layers in memristive performance. The proposed method for the MHM-type 2D memristor has the potential to achieve a large-scale integrated memristor matrix with low power consumption and high integration density, which is promising for future artificial intelligence and brain-like computing systems.

Alcoholic gastric ulcers are currently a common upper gastrointestinal disease with a high recurrence rate, causing gastric perforation or even gastric cancer in severe cases. Lactobacillus rhamnosus was previously found to prevent alcoholic gastric ulcers, but its therapeutic effects were not illustrated.

This study aims to illustrate the preventive and therapeutic effects of L. rhamnosus SHA113 cells and their culture supernatant on alcoholic gastric ulcers and explore the related mechanisms.

An alcoholic gastric ulcer model was established by feeding mice with 75% ethanol once at a dosage of 10 ml per kg body weight. The L. rhamnosus SHA113 cells (SHA) and their culture supernatant (SHA-FS) were separately used to feed mice for 2 weeks before ethanol injury in preventive experiments and for 2 days after ethanol injury in therapeutic experiments. The mechanisms were analyzed in view of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities and intestinal barrier functions.

The preventive effects of SHA-FS were much better than those of SHA via similar mechanisms, such as promoting the secretion of mucus, improving the antioxidant capacity of the gastric mucosa, and inhibiting inflammation. In terms of the therapeutic effects, SHA-FS and SHA could accelerate the healing of damaged ulcers by improving the secretion of tight junction proteins and mucus proteins, increasing angiogenesis, and inhibiting the apoptosis of gastric epithelial cells.

    L. ABT-737 chemical structure rhamnosus SHA113 and its culture supernatant had preventive and therapeutic effects on alcoholic gastric ulcers via anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways and the promotion of healing of damaged ulcers by enhancing intestinal barrier functions, respectively.

Here we report the structural and luminescence properties of CaMgSi2O6Ln (Ln = Eu2+, Eu3+, Eu2+/3+) samples in detail and reveal their excitation-wavelength/temperature driven colour evolution characteristics. By tuning either the excitation-wavelength (276, 304, 343, 394 nm) or temperature (in the 330-505 K range), the designed samples with co-existing Eu2+/Eu3+ ions can achieve diverse and controllable colour evolution from red, to pink, purple and blue. This shows their potential application in anti-counterfeiting with the help of sophisticated pattern design. In addition, the underlying mechanism of the Stokes shift of the Eu2+ emission and valence stability of both Eu2+/Eu3+ ions in CaMgSi2O6 are also studied in depth. These results are valuable for designing colour-controllable luminescent materials based on the co-existence of the Eu2+/Eu3+ ions for anti-counterfeiting applications.
