In this article, we explain the concepts behind designing high-dimensional cytometry experiments and provide considerations for new and experienced users to design and carry out high-dimensional experiments to maximize quality data collection.Although several studies have assessed the effect of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) relative to that of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in patients with left ventricular thrombus, the results remain controversial. Herein, a meta-analysis was performed to compare the effectiveness and safety of NOACs versus VKAs for the treatment of left ventricular thrombus. We systematically searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed and Embase databases until November 2020 for studies that compared the effects of NOACs versus VKAs in patients with left ventricular thrombus. The treatment effects were expressed as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) and pooled by a random-effects model. Seven retrospective studies involving 865 patients with left ventricular thrombus (266 NOAC and 599 VKA users) were included. The pooled analysis suggested no difference in the rate of thrombus resolution between the NOAC and VKA groups (OR = 0.83, 95% CI 0.61-1.13). There were also no differences in the rates of stroke or systemic embolism (OR = 0.62, 95% CI 0.20-1.97), bleeding events (OR = 0.73, 95% CI 0.37-1.45), or all-cause death (OR = 0.92, 95% CI 0.50-1.69) between patients treated with NOACs and those treated with VKAs. In addition, the rates of thrombus resolution, stroke or systemic embolism, bleeding events, and all-cause death between NOAC- and warfarin-treated patients were also similar. Our current evidence suggested that NOAC and VKA users had similar rates of thrombus resolution and clinical outcomes among patients with left ventricular thrombus. Here, the role of mass effect on early erythrolysis after experimental ICH was investigated based on the poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) ICH model. Autologous blood and PNIPAM hydrogel were co-injected into the right basal ganglia of rats to induce different degrees of mass effect, but with a constant hematoma. The influences of different mass effect and time courses on erythrolysis and brain damages after ICH were investigated. Furthermore, the protective effect of trehalose against erythrolysis after ICH was evaluated. The results showed that mass effect caused erythrocyte morphological change at 24 hr after ICH. The released hemoglobin was quantitatively evaluated by a polynomial concerning with the mass effect, the volume of hematoma, and the time of ICH. An obvious increase in heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and ionized calcium binding adaptor molecule-1 (Iba-1) expression, iron deposition, cell death, and neurological deficits was observed with increasing mass effect. Moreover, trehalose alleviated brain injury by inhibiting erythrolysis after ICH. These data demonstrated that mass effect accelerated the erythrolysis and brain damages after ICH, which could be relieved through trehalose therapy.Jogaejeot, seasoned Venerupis philippinarum, is a traditional Korean fermented food, and hepatitis A virus (HAV) can be transmitted through contaminated food, especially bivalve shellfish, causing acute gastroenteritis worldwide. Here, we carried out a phylogenetic analysis to identify and characterize HAV strains in jogaejeot samples associated with hepatitis A (HA) outbreaks in Seoul, South Korea, in 2019. The HAV strains were identified using blast and molecular analysis of the amplified HAV VP1-P2B genome region. The HAV strains identified in the five jogaejeot samples shared at least 99% sequence identity, were all classified as genotype IA and were most closely related to strains that are widespread in East Asia. These results support a link between the consumption of jogaejeot and the HA outbreaks observed in 2019 in Seoul. In addition, they indicate a need for more stringent enforcement of food safety regulations for the shellfish industry, especially against HAV, and the value of widespread vaccination.
