    Spain is one of the countries with the highest number of COVID-19 patients. Unfortunately, few data for regions are available.

    This study aimed to describe the characteristics and independent risk factors associated with COVID-19 mortality in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain.

    Cohort and multicenter study in all 14 public hospitals of the Castilla-La Mancha Health Service. Baseline characteristics, preexisting comorbidities, symptoms, clinical features and treatments were included. Multivariable logistic regression was used to evaluate factors associated with death and Kaplan-Meier test to examine survival probability. Statistical significance was considered with p<0.05 (95% CI). SPSS (version 24.0 for Windows) and R 4.0.2 (R Statistics) software were used.

    The cohort comprised 12,126 patients sequentially attended between February 11 and May 11, 2020. The mean age of patients was 66.4 years; 5667 (46.7%) were women. Six protective factors against exitus were defined female sex, anosmia, cough, chloroquine and azithromycin. The risk factors were age over 50, obesity, cardiac pathology, fever, dyspnea, lung infiltrates, lymphopenia, D-dimer above 1000ng/mL, and mechanical ventilation requirement. Survival analysis showed higher survival rate in women (75.7%) than men (72.1%). Cumulative survival was 87.5% for non-hospitalized patients, 70.2% for patients admitted to hospital and 61.2% in ICU patients. Additionally, survival probability decreased with increasing age range.

    Lumbar traction is a treatment method traditionally used for chronic low back pain (CLBP) in many countries. However, its clinical effectiveness has not been proven in medical practice. The purpose is to conduct a multi-center, crossover, randomized controlled trial (RCT) to prove the efficacy and safety of traction on CLBP patients, using equipment capable of precise traction force control and of reproducibility of the condition based on the previous biomechanical and pre-clinical studies.

    Ninety-five patients with non-specific CLBP from 28 clinics and hospitals were randomly assigned to either the intermittent traction with vibration (ITV) first group (A sequence ITV to ITO) or the intermittent traction only (ITO) first group (B sequence ITO to ITV); the former was treated with repeated traction and vibration force added to preload.     The initial position of an impacted maxillary canine might influence the outcome of surgically assisted exposure and orthodontic alignment. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate existing correlations between the initial position of the maxillary canine and the outcomes of treatment.

    A retrospective cohort study was designed, containing data of 132 patients (47 males, 106 females; median age at the date of surgical exposure 14±4.6years; range, 10-39years) with a total of 153 impacted maxillary canines. The sample was based on orthodontic referrals over 4years at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Rijnstate Hospital, Arnhem, the Netherlands. The esthetic outcome, treatment duration, and success and failure rate were investigated in relation to the initial position of the maxillary canine as assessed on pretreatment panoramic radiographs (vertical and anteroposterior sector position and angulation of the canine [α-angle]). The esthetic evaluation was performed using the Maxillary Canine Aesthetic Index. The success of treatment was defined as achieving a fully functional eruption of the canine, with an esthetically excellent result, without the need for reinterventions. Failure of treatment was defined as the need for reintervention or removal of the canine.

    In 96% of the impacted canines, a successful orthodontically assisted eruption was achieved. Age, vertical distance, and angulation are predictors of the esthetic outcome of impacted canines after treatment.
