    Transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-β1) plays a crucial role in tumor progression. It can inhibit early cancer stages but promotes tumor growth and development at the late stages of tumorigenesis. TGF-β1 has a potent immunosuppressive function within the tumor microenvironment that largely contributes to tumor cells’ immune escape and reduction in cancer immunotherapy responses. Likewise, myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) have been postulated as leading tumor promoters and a hallmark of cancer immune evasion mechanisms. This review attempts to analyze the prominent roles of both TGF-β1 and MDSCs and their interplay in cancer immunity. Furthermore, therapies against either TGF-β1 or MDSCs, and their potential synergistic combination with immunotherapies are discussed. Simultaneous TGF-β1 and MDSCs inhibition suggest a potential improvement in immunotherapy or subverted tumor immune resistance.The present study is the first to investigate factors influencing professional mental health support seeking in Women of Refugee Background (WoRB) in Australia. WoRB are a vulnerable population with a range of complex mental health needs. Despite this, research has indicated that WoRB are an underrepresented population in the utilisation of mental health support services. This is a particular concern in Australia, due to an increasing number of WoRB being resettled. A multivariate logistical regression was conducted on a sample of 450 WoRB resettled in Australia from the Building a New Life in Australia (BNLA) data set to investigate factors associated with seeking professional mental health support. Several factors were identified as being significantly associated with professional mental health support seeking in WoRB resettled in Australia, including age, resettlement location, marital status, prearrival trauma involving violence against women, language barriers and health-related variables, including mental distress and long-term disability. The current study provides a unique insight into professional mental health support seeking from a gendered perspective in WoRB resettled in Australia.     Chronic cocaine exposure has differential neural effects in Fischer 344 (F344) vs Lewis inbred rats that may explain strain-dependent differences during acquisition vs maintenance of cocaine self-administration. We assessed whether prior cocaine exposure alters operant responding for food across various phases (acquisition, maintenance, extinction, spontaneous recovery, reinitiation) in these strains.

    Lewis and F344 rats (N = 12) were administered three cocaine (15 mg/kg) or saline injections at hourly intervals for 3 consecutive days. Beginning the next day for 24 days, rats had access to operant chambers in which one lever depression resulted in the delivery of a food pellet. Then, four extinction sessions were conducted in which food was no longer available, but other stimulus conditions remained the same. After a 2-day break, spontaneous recovery was assessed over four sessions. Food delivery was then restored for 3 days to test reinitiation followed by a progressive ratio session.

    Lewis rats acquired the operant faster than F344 rats. F344 rats showed lower maintenance rates than Lewis rats but higher spontaneous recovery responding. Cocaine exposure caused persistence of responding during extinction in F344 but not Lewis rats. All groups reinitiated responding when food was available again and did not differ in final ratios completed under the progressive ratio schedule.

    That prior cocaine exposure led to persistence of responding in F344 rats during extinction may reflect heightened contextual conditioning that interferes with the ability to extinguish responding.

(Am J Addict 2021;0000-00).The current American Society of Transplantation (AST) accredited transplant fellowship programs in the United States provide no structured formal training in leadership and administration which is essential for successfully running a transplant program. We conducted a survey of medical directors of active adult kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant programs in the United States about their demographics, training pathways, and roles and responsibilities. The survey was emailed to 183 medical directors, and 123 (67.2%) completed the survey. A majority of respondents were older than 50 years (61%), males (80%), and holding that position for more than 10 years (47%). Only 51% of current medical directors had taken that position after completing a one-year transplant fellowship, and 58% took on the role with no prior administrative or leadership experience. The medical directors reported spending a median 50%-75% of time in clinical responsibilities, 25%-50% of time in administration, and 0%-25% time in research. The survey also captured various administrative roles of medical directors vis-à-vis other transplant leaders.
