    To evaluate how surgeon heterogeneity – the variation in outcomes between individual surgeons – influences functional and oncological outcomes after robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) and retropubic radical prostatectomy (RRP), and to assess whether surgeon heterogeneity affects the comparison between RALP and RRP.

    Laparoscopic Prostatectomy Robot Open (LAPPRO) is a prospective, controlled, non-randomized trial performed at 14 Swedish centres with 68 operating surgeons. A total of 4003 men with localized prostate cancer were enrolled between 2008 and 2011. The endpoints were urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction (ED) and recurrence at 24 months after surgery. Logistic regression models were built to evaluate surgeon heterogeneity and, secondarily, surgeon-specific factors were added to the models to investigate their influence on heterogeneity and the comparison between RALP and RRP.

    Among surgeons who performed at least 20 surgeries during the study period (n=25), we observed statistts when comparing RALP and RRP. Some of the observed heterogeneity was explained by differences in surgeon volume. This orientation selectivity, conserved through all cortical layers of a given column, is the primary basis for cortical organization and functional network emergence. While this selectivity is programmed and acquired since critical period, it has always been believed that in a mature brain, neurons’ inherent functional features could not be changed. However, a plurality of studies has investigated the mature brain plasticity in V1, by changing the cells’ orientation selectivity with visual adaptation. Using electrophysiological data in both V1 and V2 areas, this study aims to investigate the effects of adaptation on simultaneously recorded cells in both areas. Visual adaptation had an enhanced effect on V2 units, as they exhibited greater tuning curve shifts and a more pronounced decrease of their OSI. Not only did adaptation have a different effect on V2 neurons, it also elicited a different response depending on the neuron’s cortical depth. Indeed, in V2, cells in layers II-III were more affected by visual adaptation, while infragranular layer V units exhibited little to no effect at all.

    We used a cross-sectional study design. Participants were 138 Hong Kong Chinese children (aged 7-14 years) who were admitted to the pediatric oncology units of an acute public hospital. The resilience, depressive symptoms, self-esteem, and quality of life of participating children were assessed. The primary outcome was the association between resilience and quality of life in children with cancer.

    In total, 72 boys and 66 girls were recruited for this study (mean age 10.6 years). The mean levels of resilience, depressive symptoms, self-esteem, and quality of life were 23.4, 30.0, 23.0, and 63.6, respectively. There was a statistically significant strong positive correlation between resilience and quality of life (r = 0.60, p < 0.01), indicating that greater resilience was associated with better quality of life. Children with cancer from single-parent families, those diagnosed with a brain tumor, and those who received multiple treatments reported significantly lower levels of resilience, self-esteem, and quality of life, and greater depressive symptoms than other children (all p’s < 0.001). Results of a multiple regression analysis revealed that resilience (p < 0.001) was a strong factor associated with quality of life among children with cancer.

    To suggest microbial inoculation as a tool to shorten organic residues stabilization and increase rock phosphate (RP) solubilization through vermicomposting, thus increasing nutrient content in plants and making it more appealing to farmers. Two Trichoderma strains were inoculated alone or combined in a RP apatite-enriched vermicompost. Stability and plant-available phosphorus levels were monitored for 120days.

    Observable higher total organic carbon reduction in the treatment with the combined Trichoderma strains, followed by the inoculation with T. asperellum and T. virens. Combined Trichoderma and inoculation with T. virens increased humic acids (HA) content in 38·2 and 25·0%, respectively; non-inoculated vermicompost with T. asperellum increased it by 15·0%. The combined Trichoderma strains and T. virens achieved the stability index based on the humic/fulvic acids (HA/FA) ratio after 120days. T. asperellum, combined Trichoderma and T. virens increased the citric acid soluble-P content in 83·2, 62·2 and 49·5%, respectively, compared to the non-inoculated vermicompost.
