Five major themes were developed percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube problems, training requirement, health support system, effect on life, and tube necessity. Symptom self-monitoring that incorporates evidence-based treatments has been effective when used by patients with noncirrhotic chronic diseases. Guided by the theory of Self-Care of Chronic Illness, a self-monitoring guide was adapted from an existing validated tool. In the context of a pilot quality initiative, staff nurses educated patients with ascites and their caregivers, with the adapted symptom self-monitoring guide using a standardized process. Clinicians were surveyed regarding their satisfaction with the patient education pre- and post-implementation. Results indicated improved clinician satisfaction with the education provided to patients and their caregivers during the clinic visit. Implementation of self-monitoring may improve clinician and patient satisfaction and clinic workflows. Additional evaluation of the self-monitoring guide and its effect on patient satisfaction, impact on hospital admissions, and outpatient paracentesis is warranted.Fecal microbiota transplantation is an emerging treatment option that lacks a standardized nursing procedure. In our department, fecal microbiota transplantation has been undertaken to treat chronic hepatitis B and inflammatory bowel diseases since 2015. The fecal microbiota transplantation process involves various nursing measures that are critical for the successful completion of the procedures. In our center, a set of standardized nursing procedures has been established and has proved effective and operable. Standardized nursing procedures enhance the efficacy of fecal microbiota transplantation and alleviate the risk of treatment-related complications.
The aim of this study was to compare disease activity and rate and severity of flares between pregnant and nonpregnant systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients.
Medical records of pregnant SLE patients seen between January 1993 and June 2017 were reviewed. Nonpregnant SLE controls were matched by age at diagnosis and disease duration before pregnancy. Systemic lupus erythematosus disease activity and flares were determined by the cSLEDAI (clinical Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index) and Safety of Estrogens in Lupus Erythematosus National Assessment-SLEDAI Flare Index, respectively. Disease activity was measured from 6 months before conception (-6 months) until the postpartum period. The repeated measures mixed model, Cox regression, and cumulative hazard plots were used for statistical analysis.

The aims of this study were to describe the rates and characteristics of nonelective 30-day readmission among adult patients hospitalized for acute gout and to assess predictors of readmission.
We analyzed the 2017 Nationwide Readmission Database. Gout hospitalizations were identified using the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification code. Hospitalizations for adult patients were included. We excluded planned or elective readmissions. We utilized χ2 tests to compare baseline characteristics between readmissions and index hospitalizations. We used multivariate Cox regression to identify independent predictors of readmissions.
A total of 11,727 index adult hospitalizations with acute gout listed as the principal diagnosis were discharged alive and included. One thousand five hundred ninety-four (13.6%) readmissions occurred within 30 days. Acute gout was the most common reason for readmission. Readmissions had higher inpatient mortality (2.4% vs 0.1%, p < 0.0001). Charlson Comorbidity Index scores ≥2, APR-DRG severity levels ≥2, admission to metropolitan hospital, atrial fibrillation, and anemia were significant predictors of readmission.
The aim of the study was to aggregate neuroradiological findings in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the brain, head and neck, and spine to identify trends and unique patterns.
A retrospective review of neuroimaged COVID-19 patients during a 6-week surge in our 8-hospital campus was performed. The brain imaging with reported acute or subacute infarction, intraparenchymal hemorrhage, and all neck examinations were reinterpreted by 2 reviewers.
Six hundred seventy-one patients met criteria and were reviewed. Acute or subacute infarction was seen in 39 (6%), intraparenchymal hemorrhage in 14 (2%), corpus callosum involvement in 7, and thalamus in 5 patients. In spine and neck studies, lung opacities and adenopathy were seen in 46 and 4 patients, respectively.
Infarction followed by intraparenchymal hemorrhage was the most common acute findings in the brain with frequent involvement of the corpus callosum and thalami. In the neck, lung abnormalities were frequently present, and adenopathy was almost always associated with a second pathology.

To evaluate and classify the variations of foramen ovale (FO), foramen spinosum (FS).
Six hundred fifty-eight computed tomographies (CTs) were evaluated by 2 observers. Foramen ovale was classified as oval, almond, round, and slit-like. Duplication, absence, and confluence for FS were noted. Bony outgrowths were categorized as tubercule, bony plate, and spine.
Oval shaped FO was the most common subgroup. Most common FS variation was the confluence with FO. Of bony outgrowths, tubercule-shaped were the most common type and spine-shaped ones were the least. Substantial agreement for bony plate and tubercule, almost excellent agreement for all the other parameters were found between 2 observers.
Foramen ovale called lobulated and had not classified previously was described in this study. Computed tomography is a reliable tool for anatomical evaluation of FO and FS, which would effect the methods of middle cranial fossa surgery. Thus, radiologists should be a pathfinder about the variations of these structures.
