Series Purpose: To assist National Board candidates in the thinking and writing involved in completing Components 2 – 4 of the National Board Certification process. This series of 2-hour workshops will address the thinking, analyzing, reflecting, and writing demands of Components 2 – 4. Instruction will be a blend of lecture, online, whole class and small group discussion, and peer writing review and response. A writing workshop approach will be taken, so participants will read and respond to colleagues writing and instructional videos. Optional: Participants may earn 4 CUs if they attend all four workshops and complete an additional four hours of homework online (12 hours).
Workshop 1: Introduction to Thinking and Writing for National Boards – The first workshop will focus on the three types of writing necessary to complete the National Board Certification process: narrative/descriptive writing, analytical writing, and reflection. Participants will address the following questions: What types of thinking and writing does the National Board expect? What does this look like? How do I collect and analyze my classroom data? How will my assessments look (formative and summative)?
